1) UNESCO City of Design
This first one isn't as well-known as the V&A, but you'll probably recognise it as the former home of the Mona Lisa on Reform Street.
Other prominent cities such as Seoul, Shanghai, Montreal, and Bilbao now share the designation of UNESCO City of Design with Dundee. Thanks to membership in this unique club, Dundee is being put on the map. But what does this mean for a regular visitor going down the high street?
Through creative design, UNESCO hopes to address the city's socio-economic difficulties; it will be a location where innovation can help enhance things like tourism, employment, education, and cultural prestige.
2) Dundee is attracting some big names!
You no longer have to go far to witness some of music's biggest stars perform their greatest hits. Each year, the star power that Slessor Gardens attracts enhances. UB40, Simple Minds, Little Mix, Olly Murs, and Steps have previously performed on the green.
On July 28, we'll see Rita Ora take the stage in style.
The Caird Hall is becoming a mini-'Live at the Apollo' in its own right, in the same way that Slessor Gardens is competing with large music events.
When the UK's top comedians, such as Jimmy Carr and Jason Manford, come out to deliver their finest punchlines, Dundee's crowd gets louder and louder, and the comedians can't wait to come back. Sarah Millican, who will perform in Dundee on September 21, will be the next comedian to grace Dundee.
3) Maggie's Penguin Parade
Large-scale public artworks are nothing new in Dundee. The penguins are taking control, following in the footsteps of Oor Wullie.
The incredibly inventive ideas have already spread around the city. Catch them in the coming months for #maggiespenguinparade selfies or a fun day in the sun for the whole family. There are some pretty exciting monuments fashioned out of incredible things out there.
4) And the "Big Ane"…
We can't talk about Dundee these days without mentioning the V&A. If nothing else has persuaded you that Dundee is the place to be, this should.
This is Scotland's first design museum and the first V&A branch outside of London. Hold your horses before you go "yawn with museums" you will find amazing cafés, event spaces, and everything in between at the V&A. There are also proposals for an urban beach to be built nearby!
