The Best Bars in Dundee

Before visiting one of our 25 luxury serviced apartments in Dundee, Scotland, you might like to check out the nightlife in the area. Dundee has so much to offer, and the nightlife is no exception. With our serviced apartments only a short distance from the city's best restaurants and bars in Dundee's West End, you can be sure you won't miss out on any of the action! Here is our complete guide to the best spots in this fantastic city.

1) Bird and Bear

The magnificent design of Bird & Bear is the first thing most visitors notice: indigo walls, copper piping, floor-to-ceiling vegetation, and ornate birdcages. The menu, which includes boozy milkshakes and Instagrammable drinks are crafted to fit any time of day, reflecting this bar's attention to detail. If you are looking for somewhere with an atmosphere that's very relaxed and low-key, this is the place for you.

2) Draffens

Draffens is a hidden bar, a speakeasy in the spirit of the 1920s. It has grown too popular to remain a real secret since opening in 2017, yet it keeps an intriguing vibe, hidden inside Couttie's Wynd with a solitary lamp marking the entrance. The pub is named after the Draffens of Dundee department store, a high-street fixture for roughly 150 years before closing in the early 1980s. With a burgundy and dark green colour palette, exposed brick walls, and soft patterned carpets, Draffens the pub offers a similar old-timey feeling.

3) Abandon Ship

Abandon Ship is an American-style bar. Renowned Australian artist Steen Jones painted the nautical-themed exterior, and the walls are covered with 70 square metres (753 square feet) of hand-drawn artwork by owner Richard Davies. There are over 70 craft beers on tap, as well as a few cocktails. The pub even sells its own line of bespoke clothing that can't be found anyplace else. The menu features traditional pub grub with a large number of vegan options.

4) The King of Islington

The King of Islington, Scotland's greatest rum bar. Don't just take our word for it: at the Scottish Licensed Trade News (SLTN) Awards in 2018, The King of Islington was named Rum Bar of the Year. They even have 120 rums from all over the world and bottles that you can't buy anymore. Need we say more?..

5) Blue Room

The Blue Room, which debuted in June 2019, is one of Dundee's newest bars. It's an amaro and aperitivo bar in the Italian style. They provide traditional aperitivo hours, with charcuterie platters, cheeses, meats. With just 35 tables and being located in the same building as the Draffens speakeasy bar, it offers a cosy feel. The prominent design feature is its blue walls, which are accented by white marble tabletops and historic floor-to-ceiling windows. It looks lovely, especially in the summer, as a really light and airy space.
